Listen to Lauryn Hill, “I’ve Got Life”


Just days after teasing a cover of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good,” Lauryn Hill drops another snippet of a cover; this time “I’ve Got Life,” a cover of Simone’s, “Ain’t Got No, I Got Life.” Following a beautiful rendition of Simone’s original in the beginning, Hill drops a politically charged verse that touches on women’s suffrage, race relations in the U.S. and much more. The controversial artist decided to drop the song on her Audiomack page with the simple description, “Here is a snippet of I’ve Got Life, soon to be released on the Nina Simone Tribute Album, Nina Revisited. Thought it appropriate to share now.”

Nina Revisted: A Tribute to Nina Simone will drop on July 10. An accompanying documentary, What Happened, Miss Simone?, will drop on Netflix on June 26. Peep the tracklist below:
