JJ: My dad was the person who introduce me to hip hop. My dad was considered the “black sheep” of his family. He was a Jew who was a big hip hop fan. In fact I remembered him bringing me an Eminem album which inspired me to get the game much serious.

The Source Magazine: What are some of things you do to help create new content for the streets?

JJ: I like to let the beat talk to me whenever I make a song. Whenever the beat is on, I basically discuss what’s on my mind or whatever I’m going through.

The Source Magazine: Are there any artists in the game would you like to work with?

JJ: There’s plenty of artists in the game right now that I enjoy but if I had to choose someone, it would have to be Dave East. I feel his flow and lyrical style is similar to mines.

The Source Magazine: What do you think will make you standout from your competition and rise as a superstar?

JJ: I am willing to trust the process in this game. I know all the legends had to put in work to get to where they at now. I’m willing to show how much I like and appreciate a strong body of work as far as music content. I want fans to look back at my catalog of music and to feel each moment whenever the beat drops. In addition I’m learning from people’s mistakes and use it to vibe with my fans.

Best Promotional #Instagram #Hashtags For Artists And Bands

1Instagram has become one of the best social media platforms through which to reach profitable music fans, but a key part of marketing and promotion is the proper use of hashtags. Here we look at how determine which are most effective.

Guest Post by Bobby Owsinski on Music 3.0

According to Nielsen Research, if you want want to reach music lovers, Instagram is one of the best platforms to use for promotion. Why? Well first of all, Instagram users are huge music fans, and spend 42% more money on music and listen 30% more than the general population. In fact, the typical Instagram user spends a surprising $269 per year on music, which is about twice as much as the average music fan that subscribes to a streaming service. That’s what makes Instagram promotion so valuable.

Hashtags are an essential part of Instagram marketing and promotion, so it’s important that you’re familiar with how they work on the platform. Contrary to all other networks, on Instagram, the more hashtags you use, the better. That’s because hashtags are the primary way you build a community on the platform. Believe it or not, between 7 and 11 hashtags get the most engagement, according to most studies.

2That said, make sure you do some research as to which hashtags you’ll use. Hyper-focused hashtags will put your images in front of a more interested audience. That means that you should use hashtags relevant to music, and to your music and brand in particular.

Three ways to search for new hashtags include hashtagify.me, websta.me/search, or picodash.com. Some of the most popular music related hashtags include:

#music
#musician
#musicians
#musicproducer
#musicvideo
#musicman
#musicismylife
#musicianlife
#musicmonday
#musicstudio

The best hashtags for getting new followers are:

#love
#instagood
#me
#tbt (Throwback Thursday)
#cute
#follow
#followme
#photooftheday
#happy
#tagforlikes

Finally, don’t forget to include a custom hashtag of you or your band, if your following is large enough, and consistently use it on all your posts.

Hashtags constantly change in popularity depending upon the current trends, so make sure you do regularly searches just to be sure that you’re using the best ones for your posts so that your Instagram promotion remains viable.

New York Governor Passes Free Tuition At Public Colleges For Low-Income Students

New York has just been cleared to become the first state offering free college tuition for families that earn no more than $100K per year. Governor Andrew Cuomo introduced this plan back in January after analyzing the state’s budget with lawmakers.

The budget was approved this past Saturday [April 8th] by the Assembly and by the Senate on Sunday night. The plan is set for over the next three years for residents within the income range.

Students will not pay for tuition but they would have to cover their room and board cost if they decide to live on-campus. These eligible would also have to take at-least 30 credits excluding part-time students.

Additionally, in receiving this funding the graduate would have to live and work in New York after graduation for the same number of years they received the funding. For those who choose to leave will result in a loan payment.
